Exploring the Carolinas....
It's hard to believe, but our journey is almost over😒...It is a bittersweet ending, but we are looking forward to enjoying the spring and summer back home, and to see all of you!!!
We arrived at the Mount Pleasant/Charleston KOA, in South Carolina last week. We had a nice, big site, took a great nature walk around the lake that was on the grounds and enjoyed our 4 days there. Unfortunately, cousin Bridgette didn't make it for our visit, thanks to the latest snow storm. We all were disappointed and cursed Mother Nature but are anxiously looking forward to the next time she can join us. The weather was kind of yucky, a bit chilly and windy during the day, but the evenings were lovely. Cousin Sean, who's enduring Navy training nearby, stopped by the campsite for dinner one night. He and his friend Coleman joined us for a delicious home-cooked meal of pulled pork. There was lots of catching up, and laughing as we sat around the campfire after dinner. One afternoon we drove down to Folly Beach to attend The Annual Sea and Sand Festival...except we had the date wrong. The website gave us the right date, but we didn't notice the year (it was a recap of 2012😖). As we tried to find another touristy thing to do, we stumbled upon The McLeod Plantation. It is a cotton plantation from the early 1800s, with an abundant amount of history, beauty, and culture. It was a great learning experience and absolutely beautiful.
Then it was on to our next stop...the Wilmington KOA in North Carolina. We arrived, checked in, set up camp, and spent most of our time there relaxing and enjoying the area. Aunt Maryann and Mark live in nearby Topsail, so we headed over there the next morning for a lovely visit. We enjoyed a delicious pulled pork lunch that, Mark smoked for almost 15 hours earlier in the week...absolutely scrumptious!!! After visiting for a while, they came back to the campsite to get the royal tour of the "Casa Roll" (we have officially named the camper!!). It was then off to Old Town Wilmington, located on the Cape Fear River for some sightseeing. Off in the distance, we could see the huge Battleship North Carolina at the port, and soaked in all the old history of the town. Before we knew it, it was time for an early dinner which was enjoyed at The Front Street Brewery in town. We had a lovely time visiting with Aunt Maryann and Mark, with lots of laughs, fun and great food.
Today is moving day, making our way one step closer to home. We are headed about 3 hours northwest to Falls Lake Recreation Area in Wake Forest, NC. We'll be there only a couple days but hope to catch up with a friend Greg used to work with, and explore a bit.
Until next time...
We love and miss you all...BUT will see you all soon!!
