Still Sunny in California!!
We sure have lucked out with the weather here in San Diego for the last week!!! Bright and sunny and absolutely beautiful...even hit some record high temps (roughly 85 degrees) last 2 days. It's been busy around here, celebrating, entertaining and enjoying all our family time!
Last Wednesday for Mira's 21st birthday, we headed out to The Yard House for dinner (her choice), with 10 of her nearest and dearest friends. After toasting her birthday and sharing a celebratory drink, we sat down and enjoyed a lovely dinner. Lots of laughs and tons of fun.
Thursday and Friday were our "touristy" days. Greg and I took a beautiful scenic drive to La Jolla, took in the sights, the shops, and the beautiful beach. It was then on to Coronado Island, (which turns out is a peninsula, not an actual island), but beautiful nonetheless. The town itself had a Montauk/Long Beach feel, so we felt right at home. On the way back to camp, we stopped in Old Town San Diego for some souvenir shopping and the local fare. We learned that Old Town is the very first settlement in California in the 1500s...so cool, especially for us history buffs😉.
Saturday morning, Debbie and Jeff (my baby sister and brother-in-law) flew in from Denver, to visit and spend some time with us, as well as celebrate Mira's birthday. After picking them up from the airport, we headed for a late breakfast at a local restaurant called the Beach Plum. Later that day, we drove down to Oceanside, to walk along the beach and watch a fabulous sunset. Dinner was served at 264 Fresco in Carlsbad Village, another delicious recommendation from YELP. The 4 of us met up with Mira and her boyfriend, Steven after dinner for a fun night of arcade games. We ended the evening with a campfire at the RV- no marshmallow roasting as we were all still stuffed😠.
Sunday, we enjoyed a lazy morning at "home". After a homemade breakfast, Deb and I did some work, while the men relaxed outside in the glorious sunshine. In the evening, as Mira requested, we all went bowling, and then out (again) for dinner. It was a good time, with lots of fun, some slips and falls and lots of laughs. I think I bowled my best game ever...125, and that was WITH 3 strikes in a row, known as a turkey...hahaha I stink.
Monday, Mira went back to school, so it was just Greg, Debbie, Jeff and I off to do some more touristy things before they hopped on the plane and headed back home. We went back to Old Town, walked around, once again enjoying the beautiful scenes and the history of the town. Deb and I dipped our own candles, which was a lot of fun, as we giggled the whole time. We enjoyed Coronado Island so much, so we headed back there, and took a nice walk on the beach, got our feet wet. Then, it was on to the airport to see them off. I miss them already and can't wait to see them again. It was truly wonderful having them stay with us, and getting to spend so much time together!!
Today, was catch up day...school work, laundry, tinkering, and such. A farewell dinner for mother and daughter at a yummy Japanese restaurant near Mira's house called The Love Boat. We sadly said our goodbyes, hugged and squeezed each other enough to last until the next time we see each other.
Tomorrow is a travel day. We head out very early in the morning for a marathon drive back to Arizona. It's about 400 miles, we figure it'll take us about 7 hours 😕. We'll be in Apache Junction a little less than a week, visiting family and attending Jacqueline and John's wedding...So very exciting.
Until next time...
We love and miss you all!!
