Livin' The Dream with Greg & Laura

Greg and I hope all of you had a wonderful holiday, one shared with family and friends and lots of love!! We very much enjoyed Christmas in the desert. Good times, great food, lots of reminiscing and tons of laughter!!! The day after our family fun filled holiday, we ventured down the Apache Trail, making our way to Tortilla Flats. The flats are an old stagecoach stop, high up in the Superstition Mountains along the Salt River. After a lovely scenic ride, a trip that should have taken 1 1/2 hours, we continued our journey along the mountain and ended up spending nearly 5 hours there. Once the paved road ended, we drove on a DIRT road for many miles, with no guard rails--me gripping tightly to the door and the seat of the truck, while Greg was having a grand ol' time with his big 4 wheel drive toy!! We did, however, reach our next destination (safely) and stopped at the Roosevelt Dam and lake. Another fascinating structure and one with great history here in Arizona. We head...

First things first... Greg and I wish you all a very, happy and Merry Christmas!!! Hoping every one of you has a fabulous holiday and that you share it with everyone AND everything you love!!!! We'll be with a small fraction of Greg's VERY large family later today to celebrate and enjoy the love too. Now, back to our journey😃...We are at our second stop here in Arizona. We arrived in Tuscon, Arizona last Wednesday, after a quick 5-hour drive from Texas. The landscape is absolutely beautiful!!! I truly can not get enough of it!!! It was still a bit chilly in Tuscon, so exploring was put on hold for a bit. It was too windy to grill one night, so we ventured into the "city" for some dinner at a local brewery. We did the "touristy" thing the next day (it was a little warmer at 54*), drove up the beautiful mountainside to "Old Tuscon". It's an old movie studio, where some of our favorite shows/films were made...Bonanza, Little House on the Praire...

Hello from Texas....yet again! Seriously, I had no idea how big this state was!!! We are almost at the end of our stay in "The Lone Star State" and it is been pretty awesome. We left San Antonio on Saturday morning, and headed about 300 miles to Fort Stockton, Texas, for a quick overnight stay. The town itself is a "one horse town", so not much for us to do there. The drive was beautiful, mountains and desert on both sides of the road, but that was it. The gas station and rest areas (picnic areas as they call them) were roughly 100 miles away from each other.😩 We arrived in Anthony, Texas (just outside the hustle and bustle of El Paso) on Sunday afternoon. The Campground we are in is much different than we are used to...wide open space with gravel roads and has the feeling of a parking lot, but the views are incredible!!! Happy Hanukkah from Texas!!! Greeting from San Antonio, Texas!! And wishing all our family and friends a very Happy Hanukkah!! Greg made a Menorah for us (I like a dummy forgot ours at home and definitely noooo place to buy one in this neck of the woods), so we are able to light the candles in our "home away from home".  We spent a quick overnight at a campground in Beaumont, Texas, taking it easy and just enjoying the beautiful weather. It was a sunny 70 degrees the other day...sorry for all you back home😔. After leaving there, we headed west on I10 for about 5 hours to San Antonio. The drive was uneventful for the most part, except for the almost near miss we had on the road as we reached Houston. Thanks to the new brakes Greg had installed, we were absolutely fine!!! Today, was a beautiful "touristy" day for us. We got up early, then headed to downtown San Antonio to take in the sights and the River Walk. We toured the Alamo....absolutely a must see for ...

    Moving right along on our cross-country journey.....  We spent a few days in Tallahassee, Florida last week. It was a chilly 45 degrees and rained for almost an entire two days. We stayed in a lovely and busy campground, where Greg had some guys do some work on the camper's brakes...he's always doing his best to keep us safe😊. While in Tallahassee, we visited with some family...Cousins Maria, Rick, Brianna, and Dakota. Although Greg and Maria hadn't seen each other in quite some time, it was like they hung out yesterday and every day before that. It was a beautiful thing watching and listening to their reminiscing as we talked and looked at some old pictures. We had a lot of fun, lots of laughs, and lots of good food. in spite of the cold and dreary weather...  Friday morning, we left Florida (which again was NOT sunny😞) and headed to our next stop in Mississippi. We arrived in Savannah Monday afternoon, after another thankfully uneventful drive from North Carolina. We drove through South Carolina, (actually I drove again, see picture below 😎),  pulled into another KOA, and set up camp. This is a huge campground, with a lake full of swans, vultures, some Canadian geese, who haven't yet made it to their winter destination, and had to keep our eyes open for alligators...nope didn't see any...PHEW!!! We went into town, walked around River Street, in and out of the many shops, and grabbed some dinner at Barracuda Bob's. I wanted some crab legs for my birthday, and I ate an entire pound of them, by myself!!! They were absolutely delicious. Oh, and the alligator tails we ate for an appetizer, also was amazing. However, it was fried, so could it really have been bad?? Today, we spent the afternoon (it was a beautiful 68 degrees) like true tourists. After getting clearance from the doctor to hit the road, after Greg's eventful week, we left Virginia early Saturday morning and hit the ground running!!! The only thing we did differently, is that I drove the massive beast, and had an absolute blast doing so. It took a little while to get used to, but once I did, it was a piece of cake. We arrived at a KOA in Lumberton, NorthCarolina mid-afternoon, with a warm welcome from the staff (just a reminder to us that we are not in Kansas anymore😉). We are taking it easy next few days, as Greg is still recuperating and following doctor's orders, plus not much to see around here anyway. Our plan is to move on Monday morning, destination... Hello Everybody!!! We hope everyone had a fabulous Thanksgiving, and a great holiday weekend. We sure did! We spent Thanksgiving visiting family around Westchester and got a fabulous send off early Friday morning. The first leg of our trip (315 miles or so) went smoothly and we arrived in Fredricksburg, Virginia late Friday afternoon. We are staying at the KOA-Holiday, a quaint and quiet campground about an hour or so south of Wahington, D.C. Saturday was our "tour day", and we headed to D.C. to take in the sights. The Metro (the train line here), is definitely NOT like our NY subways....they are clean AND on time 😊. Off to the Holocaust Museum we went, which I recommend everyone visit at least once in their lives. Then off to "The Mall" where we saw the Washington Monument, the Lincoln Memorial, the Vietnam War Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, even the World War II Memorial, (The Big One-as Greg reminds me)...It was truly an amazing day!!! Sunday....well...

First, Greg and I would like to wish all of our family and friends a very Happy Thanksgiving!!! 🍗 As we make the final preparations for our cross country trip (we leave with full bellies Friday morning), we invite you all to follow along with us on our journey. We will be on the road for about 5 months, (with the hope of missing all the New York snow), visiting friends and family down the east coast and across the southern states. I will share pictures and updates along the way, as we wish you could all be with us...😊. Friday morning, when we officially hit the road, we will be heading to our first stop...Thornburg, Virginia. Welcome to our blog. Greg and I are in fact living the dream. We are preparing for our winter trip across the country, with stops in North and South Carolina, Florida, Louisiana, Texas, California, and several places in between. I will plan on posting weekly if not more often, so all of you, our family and friends can travel alongside us as we embark on this fabulous journey. Stay tuned for updates and pictures....
