Breaking Bad Country....AWESOME!!!

We have spent the last week touring and exploring New Mexico. Most of our time was spent in Albuquerque, which for all our fellow Breaking Bad fanatics, is awesome!!! We enjoyed a lovely visit with Tony and Liz, as they stayed with us in the camper during our week long stay at The Enchanted Hills Campground, just outside Albuquerque. Greg and I took a ride to Old Town Albuquerque early in the week, walked around the many shops, including The Candy Lady Shop- the woman who created the "crystal blue meth" for the Breaking Bad Series...we even ran into some special friends (see pic below😉).

After Tony and Liz arrived, it was time for the real touristy adventure to begin. Yes, I still managed to find time to do my school work...Phew!!! We took a ride, about an hour away to Old Town Santa Fe. It was a lovely old town, filled with history and beautiful architecture. A beautiful old church, St. Francis of Assisi, stood tall in the center of town. More shops to peruse, and even a place for Greg to have a gorgeous hat custom made for him🎩. An old childhood friend of Tony's (in the show biz), gave us the scoop about where an upcoming scene from Better Call Saul was being filmed...another great perk of ABQ! We drove downtown, after a delicious breakfast at Vick's Vittles (again, because it was so delicious the first time we went!), and got to the scene. Although we didn't get to see all that much, none of our favorite stars, it was very cool to see what is actually involved in filming a scene for television. We then took an exclusive "Breaking Bad Tour", on an RV similar to the one in the show. The 3 hour tour, drove us all around town, pointing out different places seen in the show, and places where some filming took place. We saw Walt's car wash, the industrial laundromat, Jesse's house and his girlfriend's apartment, the spot where Cabo was killed, the RV junkyard-just to name a few!! I had no idea,  the entire series was filmed in New Mexico...so cool!!! We even got to stop and have lunch at Los Pollos Hermanos! Well, it's actually called Twisters, but during the taping of the series, it was transformed into the restaurant where Gus did "his business".

Sunday, we had some drinks at a swanky outdoor brewery, then headed to an old soul food restaurant called Mr. Powdrells. It was a hot spot way back, kind of quiet when we were there, but the food was smokey and delicious. It was then time to say our good-byes to Tony and Liz. They had an early flight back to Seattle in the morning, so they opted to stay at a hotel near the airport, so very considerate of them!!

Monday morning, Greg and I once again hit the road...slowly making our way back east, back home. We arrived at Leasburg Dam State Park (just outside of Las Cruces, NM) in the early afternoon. The site was a very pleasant surprise...absolutely beautiful!! We set up camp, I got busy with school work, while Greg started to tinker. After a lovely homemade dinner, we took a walk around the park. Vast, open land, beauty everywhere. Yesterday, we took a drive into the city of Las Cruces, to take care of some errands we had to take tackle-food shopping, UPS store, post office, etc. We decided to stop for breakfast at A Bite of Belgium, another fabulous YELP pick. They featured delicious Belgium waffles, and the coffee was outstanding (it's been a while since I've had a good cup of java outside our "home"). Then it was back to camp, for some more tinkering, studying and relaxing. We took a short hike on the Mongollon Trail, one of the many they have in the park, and walked along the Rio Grande. At the end of the trail, there was a diversion dam, which although the river and canal were dried up in many spots, it was amazing to see.

This morning, we hit the road again (yes, I'm blogging while riding in the truck😛, but don't worry Greg is driving). Heading to our next stop on the loop back home, to Fort Stockton, Texas for a quick overnight. We have about 270 miles to cover, and figure it will take us about 5 hours, including any stops we make. We'll be in Texas for a while, remember how HUGE this state is...

Until next time...
We love and miss you all!
