Still Sunny in California!!

Image
We sure have lucked out with the weather here in San Diego for the last week!!! Bright and sunny and absolutely beautiful...even hit some record high temps (roughly 85 degrees) last 2 days. It's been busy around here, celebrating, entertaining and enjoying all our family time! Last Wednesday for Mira's 21st birthday, we headed out to The Yard House for dinner (her choice), with 10 of her nearest and dearest friends. After toasting her birthday and sharing a celebratory drink, we sat down and enjoyed a lovely dinner. Lots of laughs and tons of fun. Thursday and Friday were our "touristy" days. Greg and I took a beautiful scenic drive to La Jolla, took in the sights, the shops, and the beautiful beach. It was then on to Coronado Island, (which turns out is a peninsula, not an actual island), but beautiful nonetheless. The town itself had a Montauk/Long Beach feel, so we felt right at home. On the way back to camp, we stopped in Old Town San Diego for some souvenir s...

Hello from Sunny San Diego!!!

Image
We arrived in Vista, California, about 30 miles north of San Diego late last week. As this will be our "home" for the next 2 weeks, we are completely set up and settled in...it's nice to stay put for a little while. We have been quite fortunate with the weather the last few days...Daytime high's are in the upper 60s, a little cooler once the sun goes down. The last couple days we have met up with and spent time with my daughter Mira (my mini-me some people say😀). Unfortunately, she's working a lot, but that hasn't stopped me from seeing her. We've gone to several of our favorite places already...The Cheesecake Factory, Menchie's (a wonderful frozen yogurt place), and even Blaze Pizza where she works. The visiting, talking, and laughing (giggling actually), all just fall right into place at the exact spot we left off the time before. Greg and I went in the hot tub ("the spa" they call it😲) this morning, before tinkering and finishing up ...

Say Goodbye to Hollywood...

We've had a full week of visiting and doing our touristy thing. Unfortunately, we did not get to take the beautiful drive along the California coast to Pismo Beach. Due to the mudslides produced by the heavy rain last week, many of the roads would've taken to get there, were closed-some still are. While, we were disappoointed, we are happy to be safe and out of harms way.  We have spent the last week in Pomona, about 30 miles (yet about 2 hours thanks to the California traffic😒) from LAX. One of the first nights we were here, we went to a drive-in movie. It had been years since either of us had been to one, and it was soooo cool!! Jumanji was playing, it was funny, cute and very enjoyable, especially being in the comfort of our own truck!! The grounds of the theatre host a "swap meet" a few days a week, and we decided to check it out the next day. It was a complete waste of time, but an interesting experience nonetheless. For those of you who don't know, a...

Hello from Palm Springs....Rainy California

Image
Hello, everybody!!! After a few get-togethers with the family last week, and a very fun (and yummy) "farewell" dinner at Venezia's-NY Style Pizza, we hit the road once again on Sunday morning. On to our next destination, roughly 300 miles away from our cozy campsite in Arizona. We arrived at  Palm Springs/Joshua Tree KOA late Sunday afternoon. The drive was easy and uneventful as we rode along I-10 passing through the deserts of Arizona to the deserts of California. It was really lovely seeing all the greenery and foliage as we got closer to the Joshua Tree National Park, which is absolutely huge!! Yesterday, we decided to tackle our laundry, take it easy and stay close to the campgrounds. In the afternoon, we set out for a drive through a neighborhood of old houses (some from the 1930s), in nearby Palm Desert. Most of the houses have been updated, but some of them still had the authentic and charming architecture we were looking for. Then it was off to Agua ...

Happy New Year!!!

Greg and I wish you, all of our family and friends a very happy and healthy New Year!! We've had a busy few days....I'll try to fill you all in and not bore you too much. We are still in Arizona--it's such a beautiful state with so many gorgeous views at every turn. We did a bit more touring while in the Sedona area, most of which included driving on long, winding roads, both paved and unpaved up, around and through the mountains...I'm pretty sure I've been scared enough😥. One of those roads led us on a 40 mile trek as we made our way to a town called Prescott. We drove through Jerome, an old copper mining town, that had a feel like the narrow streets, homes and shops in Italy (Greg tells me). While in Prescott, we grabbed some lunch at "The Raven Cafe" (another YELP suggestion), walked around  town that was filled with bars, restaurants, gift shops and antique malls. We learned a section of the main street was once called "whiskey row" bec...
